Bold, bright and stylised

Colour, expression and bold design is my style. I like to paint in full colour and with texture. In my abstract work, the movement of the paint across the canvas and the textures created form part of the piece's life and expression. I aim to make a statement with each piece either by creating depth, adding striking background colours or by the design and arrangement of the image. I am drawn to painting natural forms (animals, birds and flowers etc), almost as a meditative revelation. Flowers, birds and animals have specific energies, symbolism and hidden meaning. I believe I paint them as a way to draw in that energy and to understand more about myself at that point in time. Colours also work in the same way, affecting feelings and providing energy.
Symbolism is fascinating to me and through my spiritual practice, I understand that at certain points in your life you are drawn to certain animals and flowers for various reasons; to bring insight, balance, fulfilment and to instigate change. They can lead the way to personal growth and provide understanding to situations. It may be that you are always seeing squirrels or that a fox is roaming around in your garden, this would be reason to look up the symbolism and metaphysical understanding to see if it can offer any information to you. Nature speaks and sends messages of wisdom, insight and instruction. Animal symbolism is at the heart of Native American Indigenous People's culture, is present throughout many cultures, history, religion, art and literature.

Flowers have long had significance in healing and medicine. Floriography is popular in floristry these days and the 'language of flowers' reaches back through history, via the Victorians and Shakespeare to antiquity, myth and folklore. Flowers and plants have been used for their healing properties and protection. Flowers, from my spiritual knowledge and understanding, are connected to the main chakra points of your body. For example, tulips link to the base chakra and lilies with the sacral chakra. So, a person with specific chakra issues would benefit by connecting with the flower or colour that heals that chakra. Colours also have meaning, hold specific energies and connect, as well, with the main chakra points. Green is excellent for balance and alignment and connects with the heart chakra, yellow is for the solar plexus, red the base and blue the throat. Wearing blue, for example, will help a person with communication, as it links with the throat chakra.

This knowledge and hidden depth and meaning influences my artwork but I also follow my intuition and emotions, especially in creating my abstract pieces. Colour is my main focus, but the movement, texture of the paint and the general look and flow of each abstract piece is important in its creation.

There are many websites dedicated to animal symbolism. I personally find the website whats-your-sign.com, informative and useful. Likewise you can search the internet for the language of flowers or floriography. Bloom & Wild have a simple easy to follow guide on their website. Click the links below.

Digital art is a new venture, started in 2021. Working digitally and creating artwork with an iPad and a stylus is different and has allowed me to work in ways I hadn't thought about previously. I have developed a batch of Word Art designs, to inspire, bring positive affirmation and happiness. I have also continued to create abstract work, which is different to the way I create on canvas, as texturing the paint isn't possible but other ways to build up pattern and design are. I have also been able to re-design some old artwork and give it a different lease of life. I am looking forward to continuing to learn, create and inspire with my digital art designs, projects and work.

I am selling my digital work through Society 6, which allows my designs to be bought in multiple ways, on phone cases, pillows, furniture, notebooks, as prints, cards to name a few. Check out my site, click button below:
